Starting a company … what am I doing???

I had a thought recently that I could start and run (successfully, I might add) a cosmetics company.  I have never done anything like this before in my life.  I don’t have any business experience at all, but I do know that I have a good idea.  If you’d like to read more on what inspired this thought then check out my other blog, The Cosmetic Insider, which goes hand-in-hand with this one.

I really don’t know what a check list to start a company looks like, but this is what I think I need and what I have so far:

1. Great concept - Check!
2. Name - Check!
3. Knowledge of the industry - Sorta … ?
4. A plan - I have a plan!
5. A business plan - Umm … does half of a business plan count?  It’s not finished yet!
6.  Source raw materials - Done!
7. Source packaging - Done!
8. Research Federal/Provincial/Municipal laws - Done!
9. Acquire permits - In progress!
10. Formulate and test products - In progress!
11. Advertising - Working on it (right now, even).

I still need to look into wholesalers and retailers & how exactly to go about getting them to carry my products, but I have to have safe & viable products first.  In due time, I say … in due time.
